Dr Paul Coxon

NORTH QUEENSLAND SKIN CENTRE

MBBS, Masters of Medicine (Skin Cancer), Accredited Skin Cancer Doctor (SCCA), FRACGP

Paul grew up in Townsville and was part of the second ever cohort at the school of medicine in 2001. After time in the hospital system in Cairns, Gold Coast, Mt Isa and Townsville he began general practice training in 2011. Throughout his 10 years in General Practice he became increasingly interested and busy with skin cancer and melanoma management so undertook further training and qualifications in skin cancer. It has become a field he is particularly passionate about and now works full time in the field of skin cancer and melanoma medicine and surgery. This includes diagnostics and screening with the use of dermoscopy and dermal imaging as well as management including both non-operative medical therapies as well as surgery including complex flaps and grafts. Patient education also forms an important part of our management as if you understand and are confident in our management then outcomes are better.

As a North Queensland local he understands our unique lifestyle, climate and geography. With skin cancer rates the highest in the world, we are at the forefront of management. He’s passionate about staying abreast of gold standard practice and providing our patients with the latest advancements in therapy. This includes participating in research to further contribute to the field.Having a large population that live remotely, he visits the North West Queensland and the Gulf country several times a year to provide outreach skin cancer clinics.

Outside of medicine he enjoys the North Queensland lifestyle (though am always sun smart).  He has a young family with three children that keeps him busy. An avid cyclist, you may see him on the road early in the morning in lycra (please don’t hit me). He enjoys following most sports in particular our very own North Queensland Cowboys, as well as the Carlton Blues and Queensland Reds. He  enjoys travel (though children have put the brakes on that a tad), good food and COFFEE!! Dr Paul Coxon joined the North Queensland Skin Centre team on 22nd April 2020 and has now open his book.
